Arrival & Departure

To help with the day-to-day care of your children, St Paul’s has put in place some procedures which will help to keep your children safe.

Children must be accompanied to and from the centre by a responsible adult known to the staff. Please ensure you notify a staff member upon arrival and departure. It is important that children are not left in the foyer area. We do request that you close the door upon entering and exiting your child's room, this is for the safety of all children.

Children will not be allowed to go with an adult who has not been previously been nominated by you to pick up your child. It is important that you keep the centre informed as to who will be collecting your child from the centre. It is parents responsibility to ensure enrolment forms are updated regularly concerning names of people collecting your children. When a staff member is unfamiliar with a person picking up a child they may be asked for identification.

SIGNING IN AN OUT BOOK

Children must be signed in and out of the centre each day. In case of emergency, where we have to leave the premises these books are taken with us to check that all children are safe. Please ensure that all persons picking up your child are familiar with the signing in and out policy. A sign on book is located in each room.

ON ARRIVAL

Each room has a thorough routine on what is expected of parents to do on arriving at the centre. Please check this routine with your child’s group leader.

LOST PROPERTY

There is a lost property box displayed in each playroom. Each room also has a chart with written information about lost property. Please feel free to write this information onto the chart to inform other parents of your lost property. If all items are clearly named, including socks, shoes, hats, and underwear it is easier for staff to identify possessions.

PARKING

Due to children moving around the grounds of the car park, please drive very carefully and observe the 5 kph signs. It is advisable that parents restrict their children from running in the car park, as often they cannot be seen by other drivers. Parking spaces are to be strictly observed. Please do not park in non-allotted car spaces as very often you are parking others in.

CONCERNS

If you have any concerns regarding the care of your child please address them with your group leader. If you feel your concerns are not being addressed appropriately please do not hesitate to approach the Director. As a team we will work to alleviate any concerns you may have. We have a commitment to provide high quality care for your children and it is hoped that we can come to a mutual agreement with your concerns.

SECURITY SYSTEM

At our centre we are very fortunate to be able to offer families the peace of mind that your children are safe in their environment as we have a security system.

Parents purchase security cards for the cost of $10.00 which is refundable on their return. You may purchase as many as you require. This system works well when parents use their cards and not the doorbell. Staff are often busy caring for your child or maybe in a meeting with another parent and it is disturbing to answer door bells.

COMMUNICATION WITH STAFF

Most of the communication between staff and parents occurs as parents drop off and pick up their children. It is very important that both parents and staff are aware of the importance of passing on information which helps with the care and education of the children. eg if your child has had a bad night, if there are any changes occurring in the pattern of family life, or if your are commencing toilet training. Staff will write on the sign on book when they need to see you to pass on a special message. As staff are mostly with the children if you need to speak to them for an extended length of time it will be necessary to make an appointment so arrangements can be made. The discussion can then take place without the distraction of the children. Good communication is vital if staff and parents are to work together to offer high quality care and education to children.
